After attending Australia in May 2006 and December 2007 for Nuroc Dance Company, we are honoured to have them come back yet again!

Specialising in West Coast Swing, California's State Dance, Jordan Frisbee & Tatiana Mollmann have been a successful partnership for over 6 years. They are the 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005 & 2006 US Open Champions, 2 Time NASDE Champions, Grand National Champions & won every Classic event in 2004, 2005 & 2006! At 2004 UCWDC World's Event they were given the Star Award for the Couple with the Most Impact on Swing! For 2 years running they were awarded "Couple of the Year" on the USA Swing network.

In 2002 they were the Grand Prize Winners ($25,000.00) on the Fox Television Show "30 seconds to Fame" & in 2003 they made it to the semi-finals on the CBS Television Show "Star Search". Their motion was also captured for a dance scene in the computer animated movie "The Polar Express". In July 2005, they were on ABC TV's Good Morning America where they won the "Greatest Dance Couple in America" Contest!

In May 2006 and December 2007 Jordan & Tatiana attended Australia for Nuroc Dance Company and they conducted several "West Coast Swing workshops" and "West Coast Swing meets Modern Jive Workshops" which were a huge success! They also performed for Nuroc Dance Company which was amazing to watch live!!

3 hours of ‘Modern Jive Meets West Coast Swing’ with Jordan & Tatiana + heats for the Rising Star Classic Open Dance Competition + Social Dancing

Learn some fun West Coast Swing moves taught to Modern Jive music with Modern Jive footwork!

These are Modern Jive Workshops with West Coast Swing styling & WCS moves, especially hand picked, from Jordan & Tatiana’s competition routines!

Musical interpretation & improvisation will be incorporated.
Note the footwork & music will be strictly Modern Jive!

This was a very popular workshop in 2006 and 2007 with students attending from as far as Queensland and Canberra!

ABOUT THE RISING STAR CLASSIC OPEN DANCE COMPETITION:

Rising Star Classic Open Dance Competition*: this is a open dance competition for any couple or group with a choreographed routine in any dance style. Heats will be held on this night from 7.30pm until approximately 11.30pm with social dancing held during and after the competition heats. The final consisting of 6 of the heat couples (plus 4 Wildcard Interstate/Overseas couples/groups) will be held at the Nuroc Performance Show on Saturday, 8th February 2009. There will be 7-11 Judges, including Jordan & Tatiana & other invited judges from other dance companies from all over Australia. Plus the audience will have the honour of choosing the "Audiences Choice Couple or Group". That couple or group will also win $500.00 cash. This is the audiences chance to vote on who they think is the top couple or group!

Prize money awarded for Finals of Rising Star Classic Open Dance Competition* will be:
1st Place Couple or Group - $500.00
2nd Place Couple or Group - $250.00
3rd Place Couple or Group - $125.00
Plus $500.00 for "Audiences Choice Couple or Group"
Plus Trophies will also be awarded.

(Registration on the heat night will be limited to the first 18-20 couples registered – this is due to time restraints on the night - register now to avoid missing out!)

Couples competing in the Rising Star Classic Open Dance Competition* must register by 7.11.08 (this date is subject to places being left - book now to avoid missing out). Music must be forwarded to michelle@nuroc.com.au prior to 7.11.08 (Heats Registration fee will be $10.00 per person)

Please note that if you are travelling from interstate or overseas and you will not be here for the heat night on Sunday, 1st February 2009, then please advise michelle@nuroc.com.au - Nuroc will allow 4 wild card couples/groups to compete in the final on Saturday, 8th February 2009 without having to qualify at the heat night (criteria must be that you are from interstate or overseas and are unable to make it for the heat night - we would request that a video be sent of the routine you propose to perform for the competition - the couples or groups selected will be at the discretion of Nuroc Dance Company & it's staff/Judges)

Competition Rules & Judging outline for the Rising Star Classic Open Dance Competition will be as follows:

There are NO illegal moves in the Rising Star Classic Open Dance Competition. Anything goes!

Judges will be looking for rhythm & timing, style & flow of the dance, musical interpretation & the ability to
reflect mood & character of the music, facial expressions, attitude & sense of fun, linking & variety of individual moves & use of lines,
extensions, footwork and use of spare arms, hands and head movement, creativity & quality of dancing, drama, X-Factor &
chemistry between couple and their presentation, use of space & costumes. The degree of difficulty of the routine will also be taken into account.

Judging will start as soon as the couple enters the floor, whether music is playing or not.

Judges decisions are final.

Judges will award Points as follows on their judging sheets:

Choreography: Innovative and creative Content, Structure and Style

Musical Interpretation: Dancers have a sense of rhythm & reflect musical phrasing & accents

Dancing: Style & flow of the dance, timing, correct execution and quality of movement; poise, fluidity dancers reflect the mood/style/character of the music

Teamwork: Synchronisation of dancers as partners

Overall Presentation: Costume, Showmanship: expression, energy, charisma, drama & X-Factor - Chemistry between the couple

Entertainment Value: Did they interact with the crowd & excite the crowd

Difficulty of Routine: the more difficulty the more points should be awarded

Remember there will be 7-11 Judges, including Jordan Frisbee, Tatiana Mollmann & Judges from all over Australia so this will be a very fair Open Dance Competition!

WHAT'S A JACK & JILL OPEN COMPETITION?

Jack and Jill (J&J) or Dance with a Stranger (DWAS) is a format of competition in partner dancing, where the competing couples are the result of random matching of leaders (males) & followers (females). Jack & Jill competitions are intended to test social dance skills, whereas fixed partner competitions test performance dance skills.

In the U.S., Jack & Jill contests are extremely popular in the national West Coast Swing community. Rules vary in events across the country but three rules seem to be standard in most Jack & Jill contests: 1) no choreography is allowed, 2) no costumes are allowed, and 3) no lifts and drops are allowed. However, at the Champion or Invitational level, event organizers will occasionally opt for an "anything goes" Jack & Jill in which no rules apply.

Our (Nuroc Dance Company) West Coast Swing Jack & Jill competition will have the following rules applied:

1. No choreography is allowed.

2. No costumes are allowed.

3. No lifts are allowed (lifts will be determined as the followers feet leaving the ground) however drops will be permitted.

Although it is not the case in every Jack & Jill contest, it is somewhat typical for dancers to be judged individually, then dancers who make any elimination rounds redraw for new partners. Dancers will be judged individually in the Nuroc Dance Company West Coast Swing Jack & Jill Competition. It is proposed that Heats, Semi Finals and Finals will be held as we progress through the night! Social dancing will be held between each heat!

One of the key elements of a Jack & Jill contest in the U.S. West Coast Swing community is the element of improvisation, which is why choreography is not allowed. This improv-based feature can prove to be extremely entertaining.

This competition is open to any West Coast Swing Dancer of any level from any country or state! This is the first official professionally run Jack & Jill competition in West Coast Swing Dancing held in Australia, so please help us make it a huge success by registering now!

WORKSHOP CONTENT

Please note that all workshop content will be different whilst Jordan & Tatiana are teaching in Australia.  No workshop will contain the same moves.

Note pads and pens will be available to all students in order that you may take notes on what you have learnt.

VENUES:

St Mary’s band club is located at 411 Great Western Highway St Marys which is just off the F4 Freeway located approximately 40-50 minutes from the Sydney Business District (CBD), 25 minutes from Parramatta, 30 minutes from Castle Hill, 30-40 minutes from the Sydney Airport and 25 minutes from Liverpool.  Take the F4 Freeway towards Penrith/St Mary’s and take the Mamre Road Turnoff, Turn right onto Mamre Road, follow Mamre Road until you reach The Great Western Highway where the club is located (you will see the club on your left at the 2nd corner of the Intersection of Mamre Road & the Great Western Highway).

Bexley RSL Club is located just 10 minutes from the Sydney Airport.  There are many hotels located around the Sydney Airport.   Search at www.wotif.com for many hotels close to the area. 

Castle Hill Bowling Club is located approximately 45 minutes from the Sydney Business District (CBD).  There is limited public transport to Castle Hill so lifts will probably need to be arranged.

ACCOMMODATION:

Accommodation for the Best of the Best II Workshop Weekend is available next to St Mary’s Band Club.   We (Charles, Michelle, Jordan & Tatiana) will be staying at the hotel on the Saturday night.   If you are booking under the Nuroc Dance Company Best of the Best II Weekend you will receive a 5% discount on your room so make sure you advise them you are with our group.   The hotel details are as follows:

The 5 year old St Mary’s Park View Motel boasts a 4 Star AAA rating with 28 spacious rooms including spa rooms with king size beds.   There is also a BBQ area & resort style swimming pool or bring your swimmers!

As there are only 28 rooms we would recommend that you book your accommodation ASAP so that you don’t miss out.
